Echoes and Stars Pastoral Thoughts on Faith Grief and Hope edition by Matt B Redmond Religion Spirituality eBooks

What is this book? A collection of random pastoral thoughts and a few essays taken from mattbredmond.com. Maybe they can be a refreshing drink for thirsty souls. Hopefully these thoughts are little shafts of light for the way home in a blackened night. Anchors for the storm. And hopefully notes of grace when all you can hear is silence. Good news who for those need it.

Just finished "Echos and Stars". I have to say, it was not what I was expecting when I started the first page--it was much better. I thought I was reading a devotional or general uplifting/encouraging Christian read; however, I was greatly mistaken. This book reads like the Psalms, with a little of Will Rogers mixed with Ken Gire. I'm definitely going to have to go back and read it again in order to more completely absorb it. The author has been through great trials and tribulation; and with poignant detail, has been able to reflect back to the grace and providence of God in all the circumstances of his life. As a result, he's shared what he's learned in anecdotal maxims and epigrams that speak God's truth to the reader. It's probably the best $1.99 I've ever spent on a kindle ebook, and I look forward to reading more from this author.Product details

Echoes and Stars Pastoral Thoughts on Faith Grief and Hope edition by Matt B Redmond Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I am a big fan of Redmond's blog, and found this book to be as thought provoking as his blog. He writes about the issues of life from a Christian perspective, never preach, always wise.
A beautiful book written from a place of hope and reflection on grief when a part of your heart is departed to a heavenly home. Matt, has a way with words and you will not be disappointed with this short book of pastoral thoughts. You should definitely read his blog and purchase his other book God of the Mundane. I think this is just a beginning for Matt in a budding career as a writer to be remembered.
I'm really enjoying this read!
I bought this book a year ago as I was about to experience the first Christmas without my mom. Couldn't read until today, and I am blessed by it.
Redmond's latest is like a fine wine, it should be savored and read slowly and contemplatively.
This book is short but is not to be rushed through in your quest to read 100 books this year. Redmond is a master wordsmith, he makes me think, he convicts me, he brought tears to my eyes, and he gave me goose-bumps.
This is a book that should be on your night-stand, ready to be reviewed whenever you have had "one of those days."
I hope Redmond continues to write and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
This is not really a book, per se. It's mostly a collection of thoughts from Matt B. Redmond's blog, with a few additional extended essays sprinkled through the book. Sort of like a "Chicken soup for Christians" that can be finished in an hour.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, many of Matt's thoughts will compel the reader to more serious introspection. But, the brevity and nature of the content, as solid as it is, doesn't warrant more than three stars. I need something more substantial as far scope and length to give it more. Understand based on my scale below that this is still worth your time.
-----------
I think people tend to rate books higher than they should, so I try to rate books on a harder scale, while being consistent over time. Jerry Foster's book rating scale
5 - Fantastic. Life-altering. Only 10-20 books in a lifetime.
4 - Very good.
3 - Worth your time.
2 - Not very good.
1 - Atrocious.
This is a short book of observations and musings by Redmond many of which have been seen before on his blog. I have gotten a lot out of his perspective in the past, and it is great to have many of his thoughts in a collection. For me, Redmond most resembles Frederick Buechner, and there is little higher praise than that. Musing 100 continues to speak deeply to me, and I am hope Redmond continues to write, hope and suffer well.
